Dendrobium harveyanum, a golden haired orchid
 

This Dendrobium used to be exceedingly rare in cultivation. I brought this plant some years ago and it has proven to be relatively simple to care for, I give it the same conditions as Den. farmeri. These golden flowers with the fringed petals are unique in the Dendrobium genus. This year a fierce downpour gave the flowers a bad hair day :D. Next year I will move the plant to a dryer spot before the flowers open. This is the second year this plant blooms for me so I think I am caring for it the right way.

That's one of the coolest bad hair days I've seen in a long time! Wonderful.

What I also love about this species is it's sweet honey scent. But unfortunately I found out that some clones are either scentless, or have some different, much less pleasant smell.

Is there any way of knowing, which clone is honey-scented? (cause I lost my plant and now am shopping for a new one)

The fragrance of my plant is weak a not unpleasant. There is no way that I know of, to know the fragrance of these Dendrobiums from their physical appearance. I once had two Enc. cochleata, one with a pleasant fragrance and another with a loathsome fecal stink. It amused me to place them so that people would smell first the nice one so that they would be startled when they went for a whiff of the stinky one:D
