Default Dendrobium loddigesii and its tenants!

Dendrobium loddigesii is a well known orchid. Here in Brazil it grows well and requires absolutely no care.

But, look at who decided to set family in the pot!! Three hungry mouths are always waiting for bugs that their parents bring from early in the morning until late in the afternoon! This is the Tico-tico (Zonotrichia capensis), a well-known bird here.
The second and third photos show the diligent mother (I presume! based on the vigorous way she protects her babies, you know, mother stuff!!)

Gives 'for the birds' a whole new meaning. I LOVE it.

What fun! Watch them closely, the babies mature and fly away more quickly than you imagine. We had a pair of Cardinals nest in a basket of ferns near a window and it was quite a show. The male would come in with food, distribute it quickly and leave. The female would distribute the flood, perch on the edge of the nest and look at the babies and sing to them.
Your bird looks sort of like a sparrow what with the shape of the beak and the plumage. She is very pretty. Is she of a species that the female raises the chicks alone? :-)

No, Beverly, the birds are raised by both the female and the male! This is the fourth or fifth generation born inside my shade house. Of course they discovered good raw material in the pots and also that it is safer inside the shade house... wise birds!
