Default What are we?

Ok so I got these 2 about a month ago. The yellow with in 2 weeks has died, I have now found out that it was something that the nursery did and not my doing but I would really like to get another one. But need to know what it is called first.

Thanks everyone.
Amanda

The plant itself is called a phalaneopsis. Going beyond that to try to identify the specific phalanopsis that it is would be difficult as there are hundreds of different hybrids.

By the same token, there are also hundreds of lovely phalaneopsis in many different colors.

As Alice has advised, there are a great number of lovely Phalaenopsis to chose from and they are widely available. Good luck with your next plants and welcome to the forum.

Phaleanopsis hybrid. Very ubiquitous now. But depending on where you got your plant, might be a big box store (that came from a larger wholesaler); you don't know how long the plant has been sitting in the media. Or how it was cared for after it left the main greenhouse or grower. The plant at the big box store, or retail nursery may have been overwatered or underwatered; or watered where water was left in the crown of the plant overnight leading to crown rot. The media may have gone bad. Soured or turned to mush.
Best thing to do once the plant has finished flowering is repot it in fresh media.
Some plant in bark. I plant phalaenopsis in long strand sphagnum moss, tightly packed and with styrofoam packing peanuts at the bottom of a well-draining plastic pot. Never overpot either (too large a pot). Water to keep moist. But never soaking wet. Never let it dry out completely (like bone dry).
And try to avoid getting water in the plant's crown of leaves. Grow the plant in a bright area; filtered sun. (Phalaenopsis can take moderate amounts of shade, however, they will flower better if given good light.)

The yellow was over watered, it's roots had turned to mush. I repoted the white one into a pot made of recycled bambo. Was told by a lady not to use plastic as it does not let the roots breath. I am using the organic orchid piting mix that is mostly bark. The pots that they each came in, they kept falling over in so they had set them into a seperate pot to prevent it. When I water, it use regular water and add a orchid feed to the water. I was told to do this with each watering. I have only watered once so far.
