Default Blc. Ports of paradise 'Emerald Isle'

I am really confused about my labeled 'Emerald Isle'. Someone says it is not the 'Emerald Isle' but if it is not, this 5 yr old plant is mis-labeled. Perhaps it is the 'Gleneyrie's Green Giant'. I just don't know what the difference is between the two plants since they are both Blc. Ports of Paradise (Blc. Fortune x B. Digbyana). Perhaps someone can clarify these (seemingly) two orchids from the same crosses. The three pics are of the 5 yr old plant, taken over a three day time span.

Thanks, Marci. If you know any experts that might be able to help me, I would truly appreciate sending me their contact info. I want to sell my excess orchid plants, but would like to have them properly labeled when doing so. Ken (Mississippi)

Ken,

I just looked up photos of the various Ports of Paradise photos in OrchidWiz, and there is enough variability within 'Emerald Isle' FCC/AOS, that I think you're safe trusting your label.

I suspect that folks have looked at the lip of yours, noted that it is not as broad as that of the original plant receiving the FCC (it's not as broad as the 'Gleneyries Green Giant' FCC/AOS either, for that matter), so have assumed it it not the same clone. Folks sometimes don't consider that a genetically identical clone may not express those genes identically, or that culture can make a difference in how genes are expressed.

Very nice plant, by the way.

Default Not a bifoliate

Ray, what Blc Ports of Paradise is NOT is a bifoliate. I can see on the third photo, especially that the plant is a bifoliate on all psbulbs. None of Ports of Paradise parents are bifoliate, so this plant must be something else.

Also, the sidelobes envelope the column completely and have a very pronounced isthmus on this plant's flowers. So, it cannot be any of the Posts of Paradise clones. I checked on AQPlus and there you can see all the lips in great detail.

Irma, you are quite right. All these plants are bifoliate. Where do I go to find a description of the Blc. Ports of Paradise? Also I found that this may be Rlc. Ports of Paradise but don't know whether it is the same as Blc. So confusing. Could this plant possibly be Blc. Prada Green Delux? Can anyone tell me WHAT I have rather than what I DON'T have?

Ken
