Default Is it Rhyncattleanthe or Brassolaeliocattleya?

I need to know whether the Blc. genus is still used or if it is now improper to label plants with that. I have a bunch of orchids with that label (originals from commercial grower) but when I tried to list these in Dave's Garden data base, I was told that they should be labeled Rhyncattleanthe. Dave's Garden has basically thrown out more than a dozen of my Blc. labeled plants. What is the correct labeling? I certainly see the Blc. genus being used all over the web, Amazon, eBay, etc. I almost never see the Rhyncattleanthe genus being used.

I won't pretend to be "up" on all of the taxonomic shenanigans, but that's going to depend upon which species are in the plant's background.

For example, if the "brasso" was Brassavola nodosa, it's still "brasso". If it was Brassavola glauca or digbyana, those are now rhyncholaelia.

Likewise with cattleya and guarianthe - some are still catts.

I'm not sure of what the current status of laelias and cattleyas may be....

Thanks, RayBark. I am still in the dark as to what to do about my labeling. I really would like to have the correct genus on my plant but it would entail changing my heat-sealed, laminated labels (which all have a picture of the flower as well as the name of the plant on them) and that is going cost me a lot of time and a good bit of money to do for my 100 + Blc. orchids.

what I now do, if it is important to me, I go to the RHS International Orchid Registrar and do a Grex search. This way I have the current name. There are times I now record current genus and old genus name, in parenthesis, on my tag.

I already have done this, Ron, in order to list some of my orchids on Dave's Garden data bank. When I begin labeling anything again, I think I will do what you suggest, just put the Blc. in parenthesis. Thanks. Ken
